Subwoofer

A subwoofer is a loudspeaker that is designed to reproduce low-frequency sounds, typically below around 80 Hz. Subwoofers are often used in home theater systems, car audio systems, and PA systems. A subwoofer typically consists of a single woofer driver in a bass reflex enclosure. Some subwoofers incorporate multiple woofers, and may also include a passive radiator. Active subwoofers include a built-in amplifier. Subwoofers are designed to augment the low-frequency response of a loudspeaker system. They are usually used in conjunction with a full-range loudspeaker system, or a midrange loudspeaker. The size and design of a subwoofer enclosure plays a major role in determining the subwoofer's low-frequency performance. Larger and more heavily braced enclosures tend to produce better bass response. Passive subwoofers are typically more affordable than active subwoofers. Active subwoofers offer the advantage of not requiring an external amplifier, but they are typically more expensive. When choosing a subwoofer, it is important to consider the size of the room, the type of music you listen to, and your budget.
